Reflexion about Gender Stereotypes in Chile ♀♂👀

I have to be honest, when I heard the video of that woman talking about gender stereotypes in Estonia -her country-, she made me really really jealous, because here in Chile it’s absolutely different…

Chile is a male chauvinist country, where types of thoughts like that the role of women is to be housewives, who should be in charge of cooking, cleaning, raising and waiting for her husband to arrive from work to continue working for him. This type of conception dominates the minds of a big part of Chilean citizens throughout the national territory, and becomes much stronger in rural areas of the country.

With the pass of the years the feminist movement has been growing more and more, an amazing and really beautiful process of freedom. We've open spaces and broke a lot of miths about our role in the society as womans. We’ve been fighting on the streets for our rights, demanding justice and equity throughout this large country. We have become a big clan, where we support each other and still fight for those who are no longer with us, for those who have suffered violence and their attackers walk free through the streets, tormenting other lives.

We are tired of that stupid stereotype that says that we are not enough, that we have to accept less pay just to be women, that we have to stay home waiting for our husbands, that we are the only ones responsible for raising our children, that we can’t be good mothers and do an amazing work in our jobs at the same time, that I can't learn about the mechanics of my own car.

I am personally tired of that stereotype of men too, where you can’t cry because it’s a weak emotion, where showing how you feel is focus of mockery, where people make jokes about you if your girlfriend has a better salary than yours.

Where you can't act like a human.

All humans are different and if society continues along this path of archaic ideas, our evolution might not be good at all.

  1. Very good reflection! The abysmal difference between Chile and Estonia is incredible - and compared to any other more developed country - despite the fact that many of us have managed to overcome gender stereotypes, as a country we lack much...

  2. I share your ideas. I would like to live in a country where your gender does not define you at all. Let each one decide what kind of things they want to do, such as dressing how you like, listening to the music you really love and loving the people you love. let's keep moving towards a free future.
